Amber has always been fascinated by the craft of conceptualizing, writing and delivering a good story. As an 11-year old, she turned a basic Nancy Drew book report assignment into a bonafide news article – complete with an alliterative headline (“The Mysterious Mystery at Blackwood Hall Thickens”) and a call to action.
Amber began her career as a staffer for Senator John Kerry. Although she enjoyed the intricacies of policymaking on the Hill, she found that being a communications generalist interested her the most. She transitioned to The Glover Park Group and cut her PR teeth in the corporate sector as a strategist, working on national thought-leadership campaigns, crisis communications, and reputational management client portfolios. But something was missing. Amber filled that void by joining the firm’s burgeoning education practice – infusing best practices from her corporate strategic communications roots into a nonprofit client base.
She later applied those skills while overseeing marketing and communications within DC Prep – the highest-performing charter management organization (CMO) in the nation’s capital. There, Amber led brand and reputation strategy, designed and managed audience-aligned ads and collaterals, established the network as a trusted voice across social media platforms, and spearheaded media outreach that included coverage in The New York Times, The Washington Post and NPR.
Amber’s Inside-the-Beltway experience combines a unique array of skillsets: Part policy wonk, part digital and corporate PR strategist, part in-house CMO marketer. She understands the complexities of advocacy work and knows how to distill nuanced concepts into a streamlined message architecture. Amber is adept at highlighting a community through earned, owned, paid and digital media. And, she knows how to build and maintain a brand, curating the stories it takes to build lasting momentum in support of a cause.
Ensuring that all children have access to a high-quality public education. Amplifying underserved voices. Collaborating with a mission-driven team in service of a shared goal. Championing a good cause.
Amber enjoys spending time with family, dreams of a lower golf handicap, loves watching Turner Classic Movies and obsessively explores the Pacific Northwest with her 85lb puppy, Ike, in tow. When she’s not doing any of those things, chances are you’ll find her nose buried in a book.
Amber – a first-generation postsecondary graduate – has a B.A. in political science from Wellesley College.
