Marisa fell in love with stories at an early age. As a kid, she’d rather be reading than almost anything else, because she loved entering characters’ minds throughout their adventures. Marisa’s passion for great stories that come to life continues to this day and finding these ideas that resonate fuels all her work in messaging and communications.
Marisa cut her teeth working in the administrative offices of the Wellesley Public School system, where she gained a deep understanding of the ways in which district resources and administrative decisions affect students’ lives. She also served as a mentor for an elementary school students in Maine through her Alma Mater’s program, “Colby Cares About Kids.”
She also spent three years as a peer tutor at the Farnham Writers’ Center at Colby College, assisting students as they learned how to best present their argument and communicate their ideas. This is where the talent of helping others find their true message and communicate it effectively really picked up speed.
Most recently, Marisa participated in an immersive training program called Koru, where she worked on a project for Facebook. Using competitor analysis, customer discovery and data analytics, her team designed a proactive solution to improve Facebook’s user experience.
As Communications Manager, Marisa brings a great skill to Larson Communications in her ability to craft and hone in on the core message – both at a high level and for interview preparation. With her background in social media, she guides us in the best practices for working in multiple other communications channels. She’s also our go-to for anything that involves research. Able to find the best places to be heard, she identifies the right media outlets and reporters to target.
Marisa loves helping people figure out their true message and then teaching them how to communicate it effectively. It creates an opportunity for her to combine her passion for writing and her love for education. She shares our belief that the world would be a better place if everyone – parents and children – had fantastic educational opportunities and choices.
Following in co-worker Heather’s footsteps, Marisa recently joined the Young Professionals Advisory Board for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She is passionate about making sure that children have the opportunity to enjoy being kids. You can also find her hiking and biking all over the Bay Area as well as skiing whenever she can get to the mountains.
Marisa received her Bachelor’s Degree from Colby College – earning distinction in the English major, and minoring in both Philosophy and Creative Writing.
