Raising Visibility

Raising Visibility and Creating Community at the Teachers College of San Joaquin

Situation:

The Teachers College of San Joaquin is an innovative graduate school of education that trains Northern California's teachers how to implement education reforms in their schools and across their districts. In order to drive enrollment and increase awareness, the Teachers College needed to create a social media presence.

Strategy:

Start narrow and broaden horizons to drive engagement and fan base.

Solution:

To rally the community, Larson Communications engaged stakeholders first by announcing the launch of the Teachers College Facebook Page internally. It was then up to LC and the Teachers College to nurture this fan base and expand it. Through a social media strategy that created a platform for the audience to learn, discuss and share information, the page quickly rose to several hundred fans.

With more than 50 percent of initial fans residing outside of the San Joaquin region, Larson Communications ensured the page's content would appeal to a broader audience. By inserting the Teachers College in the broader education reform conversation with organizations such as Edutopia, Education Week, the James Irvine Foundation and many more, content on the Facebook page amplified its relevance to more fans.

From local residents to students at the College, fans started dialogues surrounding relevant education issues. Together with Teachers College Dean, Larson Communications remained diligent in leveraging partner organizations and individuals whenever possible, ensuring that each and every post received as much visibility as possible.
